Cruise 'Experience' and Activities
Holland America features fresh flowers throughout ships. World Cruise specials such as logo-embroidered robes, commemorative gifts and personalized stationery.
Throughout the day and evening, the ships offer a broad range of activities from lectures, bridge tournaments, dance lessons, bingo, golf putting contests and guided tours of the valuable art and antiques collections.
On the Prinsendam, Noordam and Oosterdam European sailings, Holland America features its Europe Flagship Forum Series, which includes a variety of topics including economics, religion, politics, history, etc.
Young guests from ages 3-17 are invited to join Club HAL, and participate in any or all of the custom-tailored activities designed by the line’s Club HAL staff according to the interests of their youth clientele. Program features include: kids menu in dining room specially designed daily program delivered to stateroom, Club HAL T-shirt. Club HAL is divided into three categories:
- “Kids”– ages 3 to 8
- “Tweens”–ages 9 to 12
- “Teens”–ages 13-17
A native Alaskan Artist in Resident demonstrates traditional art forms on every Alaska sailing.
Huna Totem members who come on board to share the legends and lore of their homeland make Glacier Bay cruises magical.
Cyber-savvy Internet Centers let you monitor the stock market, check sports scores, email postcards.
Holland America holds “Cigars Under the Stars” outdoors after dinner, with music and dim lighting at least once during a cruise. Officers often attend and high-quality Dominican, Jamaican and Honduran cigars are available for purchase. (Select sailings)
Dining
In addition to the main restaurant, the ships feature a full hot and cold buffet in the Lido restaurants, plus an informal deck serving grill hot dogs/hamburgers, make-your-own tacos, stir-fry-to-order and pasta-of-the-day, pizza, plus a make-your-own ice cream sundae counter. Chocolate Extravaganza late-night buffet, hot hors d’oeuvres at cocktail time, Royal Dutch Tea.
Holland America offers a casual dining alternative in the Lido Restaurant. The Rottendam, Prinsendam, Volendam, Statendam, Ryndam, Oosterdam, Zaandam, Amsterdam and Zuiderdam have an alternative Italian restaurant.
Dining room breakfast and lunch are served open seating, which means passengers can arrive within a specified time and sit with whom they wish.

Entertainment
Holland America features 2 to 3 Broadway/Las Vegas production shows each week. Shows in the main lounge, offered twice nightly, feature big-band sounds, comedy, magic and dance acts, and revues. Besides the main show acts, HAL features dance orchestras, piano sing-alongs, string trios, and dance quartets.
On long cruises and world cruises, headliner entertainers plus noted lecturers are on the program.
Shore Excursions
Holland America has a wide range of programs from cruising up close to glaciers on dayboats to traveling by rail on the McKinley Explorer.
In the Caribbean, the line offers 175 shore excursions throughout 30 Caribbean ports. In Alaska, HAL offers shore excursions designed just for kids, escorted by youth counselors.
Holland America’s new golf program, offered on all Caribbean itineraries, offers outings to some of the most celebrated courses, including Sandy Lane in Barbados and Mahogany Run in St. Thomas.
Half Moon Cay, Holland America’s private island features a shopping complex, art gallery, food pavilion, water sports, nature walks, tram tours and volleyball.
